I don’t care if the Greens want to dance to the faarie gods or engage in whatever Bacchus rite. Nor do I care if the materialists worship at the altar of Mammon or some golden calf. Where I draw the line is when they engage in Orwellian thought policing.

During the recent Ontario election, Green Party of Ontario members actively campaigned to to bring an end to Catholic School Boards and to prevent the extension of funding to other faith-based schools. Party members worked for the One School System Network, a coalition of secularist, humanists and individual Public school trustees, handing out literature, sending letters to editors, hosting debates, holding press conferences etc. etc. etc. to keep this issue in the media and public eye.

Here’s the OSSN’s assessment on the effectiveness of its campaign:

“OSSN can take credit for bringing this issue to the attention of Ontario and setting the stage for Tory’s defeat. Whether the slow decline before the OSSN press conference was caused by OSSN is open to question. During that time many letters to editors were being printed and the general awareness of extended funding was rising…. The Conservatives will remain the largest opposition party but will be unable to speak for a one school system without looking like hypocrites. At the very least it will leave the Conservatives extremely divided and marginalized. In particular, the NDP will be a very weak rump with a sense of failure. They will be keen to remove Hampton as ineffective and a cause of their defeat by his stubbornness in not adopting a pro-OSS policy. It is predicted that the whole NDP leadership battle will be a Catholic vs non- Catholic fight to sign up the largest number of new members so as to get the largest number of voting delegates to a leadership convention. It is for OSSN to begin to prepare to meet this challenge.”

Here is Bryan Kerman’s (spokesman for the One School System Network) post to a letter to the editor writer (The London Free Press):

“Go to www.onessn.com and find out what some people are doing to minimize the zealots. And tell everyone you can so the word gets around.”

This amounts to an attack by zealots of the secularist Goreite faith against the beliefs of those who attend Churches, Synagogues and Mosques. The Goreites oppose faith based beliefs being taught to any children. They support the indoctrination of children with beliefs of the secularist Goreite “faith”-beliefs that are not based on science.
*********“The decision by the government to distribute Al Gore's film An Inconvenient Truth has been the subject of a legal action by New Party member Stewart Dimmock. The Court found that the film was misleading in nine respects and that the Guidance Notes drafted by the Education Secretary’s advisors served only to exacerbate the political propaganda in the film.
In order for the film to be shown, the Government must first amend their Guidance Notes to Teachers to make clear that 1.) The Film is a political work and promotes only one side of the argument. 2.) If teachers present the Film without making this plain they may be in breach of section 406 of the Education Act 1996 and guilty of political indoctrination. 3.) Nine inaccuracies have to be specifically drawn to the attention of school children.”****

By all means people are free to debate the origins of the universe. But the thought police has no business censoring the beliefs we share in our homes, schools and places of worship. By all means let’s keep religion out of politics. That goes for the Goreite faith also.

Ontarians were cheated out of a meaningful debate on major issues and the election results prove how your democracy is vulnerable to manipulation. Thank the Green Goreites for dragging Ontario politics to a new low.
